Helen Walker is a London-based fine art film-maker and a founder member of artists’ collective They are here. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005, Helen has enjoyed dynamic collaborations with other artists, non-artists, choreographers, writers, sound designers and directors, creating multi-disciplinary site-specific work for galleries, theatres and online. This has led to the performance-based film Becoming the alien, 2006 exhibited at the South London Gallery as part of the Mothership Collective, dual screen projections for Koltés’s In the solitude of cotton fields (JMK runner-up prize 2006) at BAC and video projections for A beautiful recitation of Pi, 2005 at the Whitechapel Gallery among others. Since 2006 They are here have been collaborating on a 2 year research project The Twins which has led to residencies and projects with LIFT, SLG, BAC and Man & Eve Gallery. Millipede, 2008 (in association with the LIFT Living Archive) is an exciting growth in collaborative practice- a space to see the exponential potential of many viewpoints, to question what an archive may be and become, whilst retaining the power of the unique individual voice as a site of memory.
